Ideas for Creating Peaceful Areas in Your Home

With today’s current state, amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic. a peaceful respite at home is even more necessary, than before. Along with quarantining at home, while juggling working from home and perhaps even homeschool, it can be difficult to balance all aspects of life, while still enjoying your home. And let’s face it, working from home can be more stressful than trying to juggle getting out of the door on time!

Personally, I turn to color and cozy features to create quiet spaces in my home.

Warm Colors & Jewel Tones

Color can be a very personal decision, but for me, I love using lots of warm tones on my home, coupled with jewel tones, such as emerald and fuchsia. These shades keep me at ease and help me feel cozy and calm at the end of a long day.

Clean Lines & Empty Space

Creating clean, open spaces takes as much discipline, if not more, than filling a space with beloved objects. I purposefully will design a space with clean lines and open space by intentionally utilizing white space (such as when arranging objects on a shelf). This both allows the objects in that area to remain the primary focus, while giving those objects enough space to breathe.

Cozy Nooks & Furniture Placement

Even a large, open floor plan can serve as a cozy nook. Creating small environments, even out of large spaces, can help create a calming oasis. We often think of open, large floor plans as peaceful, but in truth they can easily feel too open and large, creating feelings of anxiousness. Smaller, cozy spaces often give us a sense of security and feel more intentional. This is best achieved simply by furniture placement alone!

If your living room is larger, trying dividing it in half by moving your couch and perhaps a couple of chairs, closer together. Rugs can be a great way to create space divisions. Rather than having rug in the middle of a large room, angle it and move your couch in a bit, so it overlaps, to create a lovely space, best suited for intimate conversations.
