The Right and Wrong Ways to Use Floral Patterns

Using floral patterns in your home presents a fine line for design. Some florals can make a room appear old-fashioned--and not in a good way! But, when used correctly, florals can add a modern, yet classic touch to any home. There are four elements to focus on to make sure a floral design is right for your home: pattern, scale, color, and texture.

If you are going for a minimalist look, aim for a floral pattern that is more simple, and with colors that stay neutral.

If you want a bold, floral accent wall, focus on how the texture and color of the design will flow with the rest of your furniture and accent pieces.

Keep your interpretation of florals broad and be open to new ideas of patterns! “Floral” doesn’t necessarily have to involve flowers. It can focus on greenery or even trees. Bringing different elements of nature into the design can easily transform the feel of the room.

Incorporating floral and botanical designs in the home may feel overwhelming, but focus on the big picture of the look and feel of the room to help guide the pattern you choose and accent materials you place in your room.
