Refresh your home for the New Year!

Even though Spring isn’t here YET, sometimes at the turn of the year it feels GOOD to refresh our home after all that holiday nesting! Is anyone with me!?

Here are my top design tips to help you breath new life into your home to help you welcome in the new season of life!

1.

Rearrange the details - this is the fun part because it can make you feel like you have a totally new house! All you need is a little elbow grease 💪 Move some furniture away from the wall (it makes your room feel bigger), take all the wall art down on a gallery wall and put it back up in different spots, change out the centerpiece on your dining room table, take the office desk off the wall and use it as a focal point to float in the middle of the room! Small changes like these make a big difference!

2.

Don’t shoot the messenger but…CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET! We all have clothes that we either don’t wear, don’t like, or don’t fit - and they just take up space and keep our closets cluttered. Take about 10mins out of your day today and turn all the hangers the opposite direction in your closet, and when you wear them, flip them back around. When March 1st hits, see what hangers haven’t been flipped - these are likely the clothes you never wear! Drop them off to a thrift shop or consignment (I love Return To Oz in Annapolis), and once the item sells, you will receive cash and who doesn’t like an easy money maker?

3.

Introduce more greenery! Eucalyptus, Lavender, Hyacinths (even TULIPS if you’re eager for the forthcoming Spring) all add a much needed POP of color to a room, improve your mood, and set the tone for your home making it feel “FRESH”. Not sure where to put it? Consider the first thing your guests will see - the entryway! Style your shelves with them, throw one on the bar cart, or place a few on your bookshelf to add some interest. I’ve been loving the oversized vase look, as pictured here. Hearth and Hand has a great one, thats affordable to shop HERE!

4.

Change out your throw pillows! There I said it. Trade in those darker, cozier, pillows that worked great for Fall/Winter in for some brighter colors! Personally, I love Blues and Greens because they are almost the most “neutral” choice you can make using color! (Therefore they look great in any style house!)
